| The city of
YORK has preserved so much of its medieval structure
that when you enter into the city center, you feel like
you are entering a museum. The major attraction of York
is it cathedral, the Minster. There are also 18 medieval
churches, ancient city walls and elegant Jacobean and Georgian
buildings. The many excellent museums chronicle the varied
history of York. The Viking museum, Jorvik is built
underground on an archaeological site excavated at Coppergate.
The York Castle Museum, converted from two 18th century
prisions, features reconstructions of old York and the cell
of the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. |
