NATIONAL PARK is America's oldest national park and
the home of abundant wildlife and hydrothermal areas that
have produced the park's geyser basins, hot mud pots, fumaroles
(steam vents), and bubbling hot springs. It is truly extraordinary
to see while background sounds of underground rumblings,
belching, popping mud pools, and eruptions of hissing steam
are accented with the pugent smells of lingering sulphurous
fumes. Little wonder it was coined the name "Colter's
Hell", when mountain man John Colter brought back stories
about geysers and boiling rivers of the facinating and wonderous
wilderness area. |
