Upon first viewing WARSAW, visitors will recoil
from its bleak postwar architecture. But after further
introspection, you will be amazed and awed when you consider
that two thirds of its population was killed and eighty
percent of the city itself was reduced to ashes and rubble
by Hitler during World War II. The meticulous task of
rebuilding the city took ten long years. Warsaw is rich
in museums and sights and the Varsovians are immensely
proud of their history of resistance to oppression. The
busy Stare Miasto or Old Town is a good place to
start the exploration. The Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral
and Old Town Square are excellent examples of the city's
massive reconstruction.
