radius of the mouth of the Singapore River. At the heart
of the city is the Colonial District is the Colonial
District, whose public buildings include the old British
Parliament Building, Supreme Court, the Cathedral, the Cricket
Club and the famous Raffles Hotel. Each surrounding area
has its own special history and essence, from the pugent
spice shops of Little India to the pockets of old
shophouses of Chinatown where age old trades like
clog-making and calligraphy are still practiced or the Arab
Quarter where elegant cloths and silks are sold.
