SIENA is best known for its cityscape. Its primary
sights are gathered in a maze of slim streets and alleys
surrounded by the shell shaped piazza, il Campo,
one of Italy's greatest squares. The piazza is at the
physical and spiritual heart of the city's historic districts.
The Duomo which dominated the city skyline and
Palazzo Pubblico are two of the finest examples
of the city's Italian Gothic architecture. The best of
the city's paintings are housed in the Museo Civico
and Pinacoteca Nazionale. Weathered sculptures
from the cathedral are on show in the outstanding Museo
dell'Opera del Duomo.
