The Huangpu
River divides SHANGHAI into two main areas; Pudong
which lies east of the River and Puxi which is
west of the River. The easiest way to get a feel for both
areas and their attractions is to take the Huangpu
River Tour. The great river is a tributary of the
mighty Yangzi River and is lined with a collection of
colonial architecture, known as the Bund. Nanjing
Lu is the busiest shopping street in China and runs
through the heart of downtown Shanghai. At its eastern
end is the Peace Hotel, the 1929 creation of a
Jewish millionaire is a masterpiece of Art Deco and it
is well worth a visit for the bar legendary jazz band.
