Almost leveled by boms in World War II, ROTTERDAM is largely rebuilt during the post war years. The resulting rebuild turned Rotterdam into an efficient, elegant, and workable modern city. The city was only able to preserve part of its ancient history in two areas of the city; Delfshaven (Delft Harbor) and Oude Haven (Old Harbor). Besides its very modern shopping center, visitors will want to visit the Museum Boijmans-van Beuningen which houses Netherlandish and Dutch art from the medieval painting of Jan van Eyck to modern works. Other museums are the Historisch Museum Rotterdam, the Wereldmuseum Rotterdam and Maritiem Museum Rotterdam.
