RIO DE JANEIRO, the city of carnivals is graced
with stunning architecture, good museums, and marvelous
food. Well known beaches such as Copacabana and
Ipanema, the Corcovado statue, the stadium
of Maracanã and Sugar Loaf Mountain
are all well-known attractions of what the inhabitants
call the "wonderful city" (cidade maravilhoso).
The Portuguese speaking inhabitants of Rio are called
cariocas and are known for being easy-going and
friendly. Probably the most famous symbol is the statue
of Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain standing
30 metres (98ft) tall and overlooking the city of Rio
de Janeiro.
