| Largely undamaged
by World War II, the medieval city centre of PRAGUE
(Praha) remains a wonderful labyrinth of cobbled alleyways
and ancient courtyards. From high atop Vysehrad, the 1100
year old castle hugs the hills rising from the river and
watches over the city. Rows of steeples atop onion shaped
domes pierce the sky, giving Prague the name of "The
City of a Hundred Spires". Since its overthrow
of the Communist regime, the arts and theater have thrived
in "new" Prague. Young playwrights often stage
their own works and poetry readings are popular with young
crowds. Scores of new restaurants have opened, expanding
the city's culinary samples far beyond the traditional
cuisine. |
