Known as the City of Roses, PORTLAND is located at the junction of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The natural splendor of the city's surrounding mountains, ocean and desert create a beautiful setting. On a clear day, Mount St. Helen's can be seen in the distance.The downtown area forms the bulk of the city's southwest side. Pioneer Courthouse Square is the center named after its Pioneer Courthouse, a structure that still maintains its judicial function. Within the area are the city's leading theaters, museums and stores. The riverfront area is lined by the two mile long Tom McCall Waterfront Park.
