| The area of
PENANG was first known as a haven for pirates and looters.
It later became England's first stronghold in Asia, and
they quickly populated the island and made it an important
port within the Straits of Malacca. Best known as the "Pearl
of the Orient", it offers visitors the best of Maylasia
in fabulous beaches, rich colonia heritage, diverse culture,
fashionable shopping and fine cuisine. Like the rest of
Malaysia the official religion of Penang is Islam, however
Penang state is very tolerant and aside from Islam, Buddhism,
Taoism, Hindu and Christianity are prominent. Visitors will
find Indian temples, churches, and Chinese temples all within
