Founded in 1638, NEW HAVEN is best known as the
home of Yale University, one of the world most
prestigious institutions of learning. The main area of
the town is the New Haven Green. Located on the
Green are three stunning 19th century churches. Much of
the downtown area is covered by the school's campus. Highlights
of the campus are the beautiful Gothic style Memorial
Quadrangle and the Harkness Tower. The Yale Center
for British Art whose collection includes painting
by Gainsborough, Hogarth and Turner attracts many visitors.
The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Libraries
houses works that include one of the few copies of the
Gutenberg Bible.
