| MOSCOW
(Moskva) is the political and ideological center of the
vast Soviet empire. For most of its history, the Kremlin
has been the seat of power and the historic nucleus for
the grand princes, tsars and presidents. The Red Square
with its tapered bulbous, multicoloured domes of St Basils
Cathedral is the image that makes Moscow readily recognizable.
Here you can also find Lenin's Mausoleum and the famous
GUM department store. South from the Kremlin, Zamoskvoreche,
an area dating back to medieval times and home of Tretyakov
Gallery of Russian art and Gorky Park. |
