Primarily known as the birthplace of both the Civil War
and the Civil Rights Movement, MONTGOMERY has preserved
much of its history through a variety of museums, memorials
and attractions. Jefferson Davis was sworn in as the Confederate
president on the steps of the Greek Revial State Capitol.
Across the street, the First White House of the Confederacy
is now a museum of the Civil War. The Civil Right Memorial
honors 40 martyrs who lost their lives fighting for racial
equality. The excellent Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts
spans more than two hundred years of American art.
