MILWAUKEE is known for its lakeside festivals, manufacturing and huge breweries. Its strong German heritage can be traced to the arrival of the revolutionaries who fled Germany in 1848. Located in the heart of the city, the Milwaukee County Historical Society provides a wonderful introduction to the city's history. Southwest is the Milwaukee Public Museum, a great interactive museum geared toward children. The Milwaukee Art Museum is home to a massive collection with exhibits of the art holdings of Frank Lloyd Wright and contemporary galleries with include Mark Rothko, Picasso as well as Asian and African art.
