LOUISVILLE is home to the world's most famous
horse races, the Kentucky Derby. Since it began
in 1875, three year old horses have raced the famed track
at Churchhill Downs on the first Saturday in May while
spectators sip mint juleps. The nearby Kentucky Derby
Museum chronicles the history of horse racing and
offers track tours. The J.B. Speed Art Museum has
a large collection of Renaissance sculptures and paintings.
Near the riverfront plaza, several paddlewheelers conduct
tours along the Ohio River and the surrounding historic
district's old warehouses have been converted into galleries,
shops and trendy cafes.
