INNSBRUCK
is nested among the spectacular, jagged, peaks of Tyrol.
The city's medieval city centre is dominated by the Hofkirche,
the memorial to Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I. Innsbruck's
Hofburg (Imperial Palace dates from the 15th century
but was remodeled in the Rococo style later in the 18th
century. Stunning is Domkirche St Jakob is Lucas Cranach
the Elders's painting, Madonna and Child which adorns the
high altar. Not to be missed are Innsbruck's fine museums;
Tiroler Volkskunstmuseum which displays folk art
and crafts and the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum,
exhibiting European art from the 15th century to the 20th
century.
