| HELSINKI
is the capital of Finland and home to half a million people.
The city is best seen in summer months when the parks and
waterfront cafes are filled with lively crowds. Finnish
craftsmen sell handmade goods, fish, fruit and vegetables
in stalls at Market Square. From Senate Square to
Esplanadi the beauty of it's architecture has endured.
The square itself is dominated by the exquisite structure
of the recently renovated Tuomiokirkko. At the end
of Aleksanterinkatu is the copper roof and gold domes of
the Russian Orthodox Uspenski Cathedral. Inside are
rich displays of glittering icons. |
