| HARTFORD
was founded in 1636 by a group of English settlers
from the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Dominating downtown is
the gold domed Victorian-Gothic State Capitol building
which overlooks the 40 acre Busnell Park. The Old State
House which was built in 1796 is the nations oldest
Capitol building. The stained glass windows adorning
Center Church were designed by artist Louis Comfort
Tiffany. Toward the south, you can find the Wadsworth
Atheneum which house a fine collection of Renaissance,
Baroque, Impressionist and American art. West of downtown,
is the Mark Twain House. |
