| The Island of CRETE
(Kríti) is mountainous and rugged with sparkling seas and a wealth of facinating
ancient history. It is distinguished as the home of Europe's earliest and most
advanced civilization. The island to the north is somewhat overdeveloped and crowded,
but it's still possible to find some beautiful places by visiting the west and
south coasts. At least a week on Crete is needed to appreciate its diverse offerings.
Of course, you can not come to Crete without seeing the Archeological Museum
and nearby Knossós. Other great Minoan sites are located around
the island; Festós and Ayía Triádha to the
south, and Mália on the north coast. |
