Almost surrounded by water, the port city of CÁDIZ (pronounced CA-deeth) is one of Spain's oldest settlements. It was also here that Columbus set out on his second voyage. While the modern city is a busy port, the old part of the city has energetic markets and narrow seaport alleyways. The golden domed neoclassical cathedral marking the skyline is one of the largest in Spain. Displays of art and the history of the city can be viewed at the Museo de Cadiz. Beautiful vistas of the city can been observed from the Torre Tavira, an old 18th century watch tower.
